Before the kid's racial identity was known, there were (presumably) black people posting on social media that "those crackers shot that gorilla to protect a white kid and white privilege " (see Mashed's links near the start of this thread) and now some chippy Independent columnist says the criticism of the parents and press coverage is racist because the kid and parents are black.
Whitey really can't win here.

So what we've learnt from this is....
- Zoos should be banned
- Tranquilliser darts work immediately
- Everyone is now qualified in health and safety regulations
- Everyone is an expert on primate behaviour, more so than the people who work with them as a career

Interesting that Miike and go along with a lot she says... can't get me head around that one of the reasons they never darted him was that he a) might have drowned ?? and b) he might have fallen on the kid?? Pretty sure that shooting him makes a) not very relevant and b) he can still fall on the kid when shot
The main reason was it takes minutes for the tranquiliser to kick in and getting darted would only make him more pissed off.
